Brief History

The following historical overview is based on documented association activities from its founding in 1978 through the early 2000s.

Since its founding, the association has been involved in a wide range of artistic and community-based initiatives. Its early activities included exhibitions such as the “Alay Kay Botong” exhibit, followed by annual group shows from 1983 to 1990 in venues that included Gallery Bleue in Rustan’s, Manila Hotel, Malacañang, Baguio, the University of the Philippines, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and the Metropolitan Museum of Manila.

The association also participated in cultural exchange and dialogue through visits involving PROC Delegation, ASEAN delegates, Cuban artists, and the Art Association of the Philippines National Convention in 1986. These activities reflected its interest in artistic exchange and wider engagement with the cultural community.

In 1989, members took part in a special skills-training workshop in the arts for disabled youth in cooperation with DSWD. The group also joined the exhibit “Buklod Sining” with the Angono Ateliers Association. In 1990, another major exhibit, “Sining Angono, Nuon at Ngayon,” was held at the Amang Rodriguez Gym.

The association also played a role in art education. In 1992, it launched its first Free Summer Art Workshop for in-school and out-of-school youth. Although the program initially faced financial limitations, it later resumed in 1997 through support from the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. Since then, the Angono Summer Art Workshop became an annual activity that provided young participants an opportunity to develop their interest and potential in the visual arts.

Workshop and outreach efforts also extended beyond Angono, reaching nearby provinces such as Zambales, Quezon, Laguna, and Pampanga, as well as communities served through parish and ministry-based outreach in Metro Manila.

In 2000, the association coordinated with UNESCO World Heritage in conducting a seminar workshop focused on preserving and nurturing endangered cultural heritage. A cultural exhibit at Blanco Gallery followed these activities, continuing the association’s engagement with both art and heritage.

This history reflects an organization shaped by exhibitions, community programs, collaboration, and a sustained commitment to artistic and cultural life.
